The Meijiperiod (明治時代, Meiji-jidai?),also known as the Meiji era, is a Japaneseera which extended from September 8, 1868 through July 30, 1912.[1]This period represents the first half of the Empireof Japan during which Japanese society moved from being an isolated feudalsociety to its modern form. Fundamental changes affected its socialstructure, internal politics, economy, military, and foreign relations.

JapaneseSatsuma Tea Cup & Saucer Set with a Holy Men and Dragon decoration. Thisfinely decorated cream glazed crackle tea cup and saucer is very well crafted,and features a pattern of handpainted holy men, a white dragon, quality goldgilding and intricate painted beads. The cup measures 4 3/4\" inches inlength (with handle), 3 7/8\" inches diameter (without handle) and justunder 2\" inches tall. The teacup has a darkened age line on the inside,but it does not feel or look like a damage crack and is light and hard to see.The saucer measures 5 5/8\" inches in diameter and just under 1\" inchtall. Both pieces feature the same artist hand-painted signature on the bottomthat has worn down with age. This set has been in my family for many years andis in excellent antique condition with less than average wear to the goldgilding or handpainted Satsuma design. This makes a superb addition to anyJapanese pottery / porcelain or teacup and saucer collection!
