12\" high x 5\" wide with 7/8\" opening, weigh 2 lbs, shipping weight is 3 1/2 lbsBeautiful and rare pair of tall, hollow candlesticks from Poland. They have a very nice and unique design. Have not found any others in this style. There are many markings, inside and on bottom. SEC 1286 and Fraget W Warszawie N Galv and logo. It is amazing that these were made in Poland so long ago and have survived. They may have belonged to immigrants to the US. Found in the Chicago Area.

Some research on the internet led to the following information:Josef Fraget was a famous Polish Jewish Silversmith in the 19th Century. His company Fraget in the early 1900s became a subsidiary of the German company WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik).Markings: Fraget W Warszawie in oval (Fraget in Warshaw). Date of manufacture is 1860-1872. The N means Silver Plating on Alpaca. Small oval has the coat of arms of the coppersmiths corporation (2 crossed hammers with a pair of compasses). The lettering GALW means Galwanizacja (in Polish) or Galvanisation in English. Many of these Judaica Sabbath candlesticks were also used in Russia. In some places the Jews were forofferden to own Silver Candlesticks, so they used Silverplate.

CONDITION: Excellent original condition without dents or corrosion. These probably will polish up bright and shiny if that is desired, but left them as found. There is some wax residue on inside of cups.
