Antique Knights Of Pythias Sword By Henderson Ames Co. For William Pancake:
This early 1900's Knights Of Pythias sword and scabbard was made by "The Henderson Ames Co. Kalamazoo, Mich." as etched on the back of the blade. It was made for "William James Pancake" as etched on the very decorative blade. The handle is engraved bone. Both sword and scabbard have enameled decorations. The sheath or scabbard includes a raised gold tone knight on a horse and the back is stamped "35" on each of the metal decorative bands. This measures 36 1/2" long and 5 1/4" wide at the handle. It weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces.
This is in very good condition for it's age and use. The sword is near perfect. The scabbard has some pitting and mild wear on the enamel. I can find no other flaws.
About the maker: The Henderson-Ames Company manufactured uniforms, regalia, ceremonial swords, Flags and emblems for fraternal organizations, secret societies, bands, police and fire departments, railroad workers, and even the United States military. Although it has been out of business for more than sixty years, many of its products--particularly its swords-- have become heirlooms and collectors items, which continue to carry the company's legacy all over the world.
I will be happy to answer any questions or send more photographs.
