Antique Late 19c Early 20c Italian Bronze Monastery Bell:

This beautiful bell was purchased at a private estate sale in Vancouver. The original owners brought it from Italy to Canada in 1902 and the great grand daughter of the immigrant couple didn't know the history before that. This is a temple bell and unlike any that I have seen has raised instead of indented lettering and images. It is made from solid bronze and it has taken many hours of rubbing with a soft cotton cloth to expose the wonderful warmth of the patinated metal. I also had to repair the clapper clasp. The tone is clear and strong, simply a great bell. This piece is 9.5cm (3 3/4") high, 8cm (3 1/8") diameter and weighs 608g (1lb, 5 1/2oz).
