Antique Late 19thC End of DayBlue Ice Blown Glass Walking Stick Parade Cane
In the late 19thC glassmakers ended their work day creating a variety of objects from the leftover materials used for making other glasswares. Master craftsmen were allowed to "play" with glass on their own time and create objects for their on use, enjoyment or to improve their skills. These "end of the day" creations demonstrated their great skill and control over molten glass. Given their fragile nature canes were rarely used for walking although they were occasionally used ceremonially in parades. Glass canese were rarely documented to their maker.
We recently acquired a nice collection of these blown glass walking stick parade canes that we will be listing.
Up for offers is this antique late 19thC End of the Day Ice Blueblown glass walking stick parade cane. The color of glass is ice blue". The cane measures 42 1/2" high and is 1/2" at it's widest at the top of the cane and the bottom is 1/4". The cane is shaped in a spiral twist that turns into a square shape that runs down to the bottom where it turns back into a twist.
Theice bluecolor glass is beautiful.
Condition is very, very good with a very tiny thinchip on the bottom tip that does not detract from the cane at all. The end of the top portion of the cane is a little rough but that is the way it was formed.
