Offering a sweet miniature Macintyre ceramic scent bottle in the shape of a bird's egg
One of a series of bird's egg scent bottles by James Macintyre & Co. of Washington China Works, Burslem, Staffordshire, registered under the design no. 20772 in January 1885.
Hand painted to look like a blackbird's egg. Measures a life size 3.5 cm from top to bottom and 2cm wide. The decoration is very life like, with variations in spotting, including a brown oval patch on one side.
It has a hallmarked silver cap with cork lining, which screws onto a silver mount. Silver assay and maker's mark rubbed, but CS FS for Cornelius Saunders and Frank Shepherd is just perceptible under a loupe.
Good condition. There are a handful of barely noticeable small shallow dents around the edges and top of the silver cap together with minor surface scratches, in keeping with age. A couple of tiny scratches in the ceramic glaze can be seen only under magnification. Otherwise the ceramic body is in very good shape. Please see photos, which are not to scale. Note actual size listed above.
Thanks for looking and happy offerding!
