Antique c1890s Meiji Period Signed Japanese Bronze Elephant Sculpture. This beautiful piece is signed on the belly with a seal which reads Seiya Saku (made in the Seiya workshop.) The maker would be Seiya Genryusai Saku-Meiji.
This piece measures 7\" tall by approximately 9-1/2\" long, by approximately 3-1/2\" wide. It weighs 3lbs 10.2oz.
The tusks are original and ivory/bone (in accordance with \'s ivory policy, the ivory tusksmake upfar less then 5% of the piece and are on an antique item made before 1900.)
This bronze is very life-like and detailed right down to the texture of the elephant\'s skin...just gorgeous in person!
Thisbronze elephant sculptureis in very good condition for its\' age, but noted for accuracy, both tusks are loose and able to be removed from the piece. They do stay in when displayed, but it is recommended that the new owner have them reset by a professional so they don\'t get lost or damaged.
Insurance will be included when shipped, and signature confirmation of delivery will be required.
NOTE: This piece was purchased from a New England estate which collected these bronze sculptures. I have also listeda very large 12\"tall, very heavy 15 lbs, bronze elephant in another sale, whichisunsigned but alsofrom the Meiji Period, circa 1890s. That piece is nearly identical to this one and looks like theadult elephant, whereas this looks like the baby. My listing pieces come from various sources, including Estate Sales, sales, Yard Sales, Etc...I usually have no way of knowing if items came from homes that smoked or had pets, but if any odor is ever noticed, it will be described in the listing. Additionally if I know for a fact an item came from a smoking home, it will be noted in the description. I have pets, but my stock is stored in a room the pets are not allowed in.
Lastly, I try to describe every piece I sell with as many details as I possibly can, but the majority of these items are antique or vintage, so they will normally show some degree of wear from age and use.
