This is a striking Swiss pocket watch dating to at leas the mid 19th century and possibly earlier. The watch features a superb 18k yellow gold case with an extraordinary back cover engraved to depict a three-masted man of war. The ship sails on a very attractive abstracted waves. The movement and case are hallmarked as of entirely Swiss origin. The dust cover is engraved for John Harrison of Liverpool; this may perhaps have been a retailer for the watch. The dial is beautifully detailed with a finely detailed floral garland. This is a key wind watch, and is accompanied by a key as pictured.
Total length of 2 3/8\". Measures 1 7/8\" in diameter. Total weight of the watch is 58.6 grams (including movement and crystal). In overall very good condition with some general surface wear consistent with age and normal use, including a few small dings to the edges. There are two small circular protuberances to the outer case, in line with the key wind mechanisms. The crystal is loose but present.
