Antique Miniature Doll's Sewing Etui
French * Circa 1860
This miniature antique etui is in a wedge shaped gold embossed leatherette case and is fitted inside with tiny tools for a lucky little girl's doll. It is lined in the original silk and velvet and the little carved tools are all original. Included are a needle case, bodkin, stiletto, thimble and gilded scissors. The tools are all in excellent condition with no damage. The needle case opens and the scissors open and close.
The case is also in nice condition and closes well with a flip up brass clasp. The embossed paper that it's covered with has separated at the back but is intact inside so the top is still attached. It would be easy to reinforce at the back with black tape or paper. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 3/8" wide (at the widest point). It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed for the top plate (left) on p. 40 of her book Sew Precious, Children's Needlework Tools & Dolls' Sewing Tools.
