Antique Miniature Doll's Sewing Etui
French * Circa 1860
This miniature antique etui is in a wedge shaped gold embossed leatherette case and is fitted inside with tiny tools for a lucky little girl's doll. It is lined in the original silk and velvet and the little tools are all gilded metal. Included are a needle case, bodkin, stiletto, thimble and scissors. The needle case opens and the scissors open and close. There is a small restoration at the opening of the needle case, but the tools are in otherwise excellent condition.
The case is in great condition and closes with a flip up brass clasp. It measures 1 7/8" long by 1 3/8" wide (at the widest point). It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the set that was photographed for the top plate (right) on p. 40 of her book Sew Precious, Children's Needlework Tools & Dolls' Sewing Tools.
