This
little antique tatting shuttle is carved of horn and is
delicately inlaid on one side with mother of pearl, abalone shell
and silver to create a floral design. The
post is
carved
of cow (bovine) bone. It's
riveted together, came from England and measures almost 2 7/8" long by
5/8"
wide.
The condition is
excellent with no chips or cracks and it
is
solid and sturdy with no wobble.
Gay Ann Rogers shows a tatting shuttle of this
style on p. 211 of her book Needlework
Tools and some others are shown
on p. 190 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique
Needlework Tools.
