Antique "New Home Midget" Hand Crank Iron Sewing Machine
This early hand-crank sewing machine measures 10 1/4" long x 6" wide at the base and stands a little over 10" tall. It weighs more than 11 pounds. It looks to be in good working condition. The needle assembly moves up and down smoothly when cranked. It has patent dates of 1911 and 1912. There is a small metal sliding plate that has a figure of a greyhound dog on it. It is inscribed "Light Running New Home Trademark" on that plate, but it's a little hard to see because of some rust in that area. It is hard to slide but I'm sure it could be loosened up with some oil. There is some paint loss, some minor rust, and some other signs of wear on the finish. I think the little black knob may have been replaced that you crank the wheel with because it's made of hard rubber. I think the original knobs were made of wood, although I'm not sure. This is a great old miniature sewing machine in spite of its minor flaws.
