Antique North Africa Arabic Sahara Desert Tuareg Tribe Takouba Sword c1860
This is for an antique North Africa Arabic Sahara Dessert Tuareg tribe takouba sword, circa 1860. The short broad double-edged steel blade, is straight, and tapers to a rounded point, and is likely a European trade blade from the 1700's. The blade is engraved with three fullers, the central being the longest, and with a pair of crescent moons on either side. The sword has a typical Takouba hilt, with steel cruxiform cross-guard, with embossed leather cover, and pommel decorated with chiselled bi-colour brass. The sword has a tooled leather scabbard, with two metal belt loops. This sword measures 760 mm in total length. The blade measures 452 mm in length. The sword weighs 751 grams. The condition is generally very good, tthe blade has light surface marks, with a roughly striated appearance on the flats from sharpening, the leather scabbard remains in very good condition throughout with typical age related wear. The Takouba sword is carried by the Tuareg people, who are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan dessert in North Africa, traditionally living a nomadic life adn inhabiting the Saharan parts of Niger, Mali and Algeria.
