Overall it is very rusty. I did not try and clean the rust off too much because I did not want to damage it (the rust would just come back anyway). It looks like it's from the 1900s and I do believe it is missing a couple of the components that are needed to make it work. There should be a chain with a ring on it (found with similar listings) but it was broken off long since I received it. I took pictures of all the angles as well as the part where the chain (I think) used to be.
Look through the photos for a full view of everything included!
This appears to be an old fox trap from the early 1900's. It was predominantly used for any type of small animal that was unwanted in the area or for food. In order to set it, you have to push down hard on the two winged sides of the trap. That will create a spring loaded clamp for when something steps onto the circle in the center. There is writing on the center piece and you can barely make out Oneida Victor as the brand name. I cannnot make out any of the other writing though. Please look closely at the pictures as these details are shown.
