Wonderful example of the Victorian beaverfur hat era !
Some minor wear and fading, and the insideleather brim has become unstitched, but otherwise great CLEAN condition !
The old hat box (bottom only)is included although I am not sure if it is original ... typically not a top hat style box, but this is how we found it and kept it in for yrs.

\"Just to help out, it is a common mistake to think these hats are made of beaver. But they are really silk. There is no beaver at all in them. Beaver just became too expensive, so top hat makers switched to silk plush. Most top hat makers stopped using beaver by the middle of the 1800s and few hats from before 1850 still exist out there, for sure.Here is a webpage that describes how they are made: is from between 1890 and 1910.\"
