This is an antique F.A. Hardy & Co., Makers, Chicago, trial lens test set which consists of 250+ lenses, an F.A Hardy Geneva lens measure, and an American Optical trial lens frame.
The Geneva lens measure determines the strength or diopter of an optical lens, and it works. There\'s a small chip in the glass face at the 5:30 position, and it can be reset to \"0\". These are usually missing in the trial lens sets. I believe the American Optical Company purchased F. A. Hardy & Company and the lens measure has an A.O.Co. mark at the bottom of the dial face.
This set includes a broad range of spherical and cylindrical concave and convex lenses. I\'m not knowledgeable about these sets but the top horizontal row is also comprised of many additional lenses for optional tests, I believe. The quality wooden case is dovetailed at the corners, appears to be oak, and is lined with a soft maroon velvet material.
This collectible, retro technology lens set has no broken or missing items that I can find. The gap in the horizontal row of top lenses just prior to the \"1\" mark is not for a missing lens but is a section divider assumed to separate the two different types of lenses.
This old trial lens set and accessories are in excellent condition, present a great appearance, attract much interest, and are perfect for a collection, or as general scientific decor.
