Antique Pink Tourmaline Ring Makers Mark D&w, R, Lion, Anchor 1/2ct Size 5 1/2:
This Antique Pink Tourmaline ring is very old. 1/2Ct. Size 5 1/2. Faceted. Solitaire. Engraved on the inside of the ring isthe City (Town) Mark Anchor. This means it originated from Birmingham England. The Town Mark identifies the Assay Office where the Silver item was present to be verified. Also, engraved on the inside of the ring is a Lion Passant facing left. This means it was from London and other English Assay Offices and that itis .925/1000 purity Sterling Silver. Also, engraved on the inside of the ring is D & W. This mark is a Maker's or Sponsor's mark and signifies it is a British Silversmith. There is also a letter R engraved on the inside of the ring. Because there is not a (Profile Portrait) or Sovereign head Duty mark certifying the payment of duty of the reigning monarch the date is after 1890. On either side of the tourmaline stone there are shields. Between 1875 and 1899 Shield-Shaped punches were used for the Anchor town mark and date letter. I believe this ring is dated around 1892.
