Antique Primitive Wooden Mortar & Pestle; 19th Century Country Treenware:
Here's an early woodenmortar& pestle up for offers without reserve! It dates back to the 19th Century, has a fabulous patinaand shows age and wear.Possibly made of cherry, it has gorgeous reddish coloring and very nice graining. The mortar measures about 3 1/2 inches high with a top diameter of 4 1/2 inches while the bottom measures 2 7/8 inches across. The opening rim and the sides have decorative incised grooves.Through wear and tear, theopeningrim of this mortar has had somepieces broken off of it long ago.The surfaces at those spots have been worn smooth over the passage of time. There's also a thin age split thattravels about halfway down as shown in one of the photos. The pestle measures 6 1/8 inches long and its widest point is about 1 3/4 inches. It appears to have been carved and is in very good condition. Very primitive looking, this old set displays wonderfully among other country antiques and rustic items. We offer it to the highest buyer without a hidden reserve price! Good luck!
