Antique Rare Woman Silk Embroidery Bedspread & Runner Vintage Early 1900s Cotton:
Woman Silk Embroidery Thread Bedspread & Runner Vintage Early 1900s Cotton
I am describing both the runner & the bedspread. As you can see some have been worked / completed and some not. You can see details of each in the photos as to what has been worked and what has not.
The word (embroidery) in parenthesis is indicating where the embroidery line designs are. You can see the photos for more details. The base design is colored into the fabric. And the embroidery is the accent.
The fabric that comprises the ground of the spread is a fine & light cotton.
It would be an awesome boudoir / bedroom / sleeping room feature & décor statement!
It has the best details and colors!
The runner could be a very unique accent as well. Used as a runner or sewn into an incredible headboard pillow, window or wall accent or other décor accent!
The spread & runner has printed from the Royal Society Floss company the piece numbers and the sizing. The bedspread is a double and the runner is 18” x 45”.
This is an incredible vintage bedspread with a sweet & graceful image of an Early 1900’s woman!
She is clad in a big early 1900s butter color floppy style hat with posies on the side. (embroidery).
The bust of her dress has French knot embroidery accenting it. She is holding a large spray of flowers (embroidery)
The skirt of the dress is a big bell shape with the green background zig zag showing through the center of the pink horizontally.
From the waist down the ziz zag design makes it look like a pink flower coming from the waist.
There is a design between the waist & end of the pink petal flower shape design. (embroidery)
Then the pink begins again with leaves & flowers coming up from the bottom of the skirt - where the green ground shows at the very bottom. French knot work as well as fancy stitches for flower petals. (embroidery)
Where the flowers become tips & buds there are butterfly to the right side hovering over the flowers. (embroidery)
There is a cluster of flowers at the center head of the bead as well.
This piece is really quite something special! It is feminine and sweet!
So Le Femme’ , Southern Belle, Romantic Prairie, Country Chic, Girly Romantic, French Country,
Shabby Cottage Chic …… so many possibilities! The colors are wonderful medium pastels. The embroidery appears to be the Silk Embroidery Floss sold by Royal Society. I saw a listing on Etsy for the vintage silk embroidery floss by Royal Society that reflected the silk’s shiny appearance. It is a listing for multiple skeins of comparable colors to those in the worked areas. Would be perfect to finish working this piece as well.
So beautiful! It could be incredible attached over a ruffled spread as a base. And in a coordinating color too! It would just be the ultimate Romantic Chic!
The butter color stripe on each side of the spread are sewn strips. These strips were sewn with the seam up. I do not know if that was intentional or not.
But, what I do know from looking at it is……… that the seam can be folded over and merely top stitched on the sewing machine very easily if pressed first to aid in smooth stitching.
Ok…..by now you like have seen in the photos…. It appears to have gotten wet at some point.
I bought a huge collection of textiles & fabrics and fabric items from an estate.
It belonged to a family of 4 generations of sewing women. Great Gram, Gram, Mom & Daughter.
Daughter was in her mid 60’s when I purchased this estate.
I had another set as this that was finished and equally amazing & beautiful!
Because I am not a textile specialist… I did not touch it as far as cleaning. In my very humble opinion, I feel that it could be cleaned and the water spots removed. I recently saw pieces that were intentionally sprayed with tea to tea stain them to look old and interestingly aged. Please note the photos.
I am so hoping this has a wonderful new life and is enjoyed for all the original beauty intended!
*** I have not had time to get to this large quantity of Estate textile & fabrics until now.***
décor textiles & garment fabrics.
A lot of wonderful
Vintage Yardages; Cottons, Linen / Flax and Early Rayons, Acetate, Polys, to 70’s Double Knits. I have yardage pieces from the early turn
of the century, 1930s, 1940s to the 1970s! Many
unique designs & prints.
Few of faded grandeur… but most in pristine NOS unused condition. There are a couple pairs of Bark Cloth curtains / panels as well that have been used. I will note any imperfections and overall condition. Most are in great condition! Only a couple have small issues.
It is a very eclectic array! Feel free to inquire. I have pics ready just takes time to list individually. I can email a bulk of photos though
It was a crazy lot of fun “going shopping again” so to speak! Pouring over these fab textiles was a real treat!
I hope every person who ends up with a piece from this estate has much joy from it's use!
They are all such treasures! On Nov-18-12 at 20:07:32 PST, seller added the following information:
