All Customs forms will state the actual selling price of items shipped internationally. The year this elegant vase came from Riessner, Stellmacher, and Kessel, a year between 1899 and 1905, was during what many consider RStK’s finest period. Art Nouveau was well-refined and all the rage and Paul Dachsel had not yet left to form his own company. Although this graceful piece does not carry the Dachsel signature, his design influence is “written all over it.”
It is, by the way, in flawless condition.
Personally, I believe the design represents the petals of a water lily afloat in a pond at sunset, the violet sky reflecting on the water, sparkling with gold. (The combination of Green, violet and gold is wonderful.)
The vase stands 6 ¼” tall with a diameter of just under 4” at the belly.
Hand written along the edge: “AMPHORA”
Backstamp: “Turn-Teplitz Bohemia, Made in Austria.” This underglaze mark was used exclusively from 1899 to 1905.
More images and commentary continue below my three "Prime Directives:"
1st: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and rarely do I ask for an opening offer of more than $9.00 (sometimes even less).
2nd: I never end sales early.
3rd: I don’t usually clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to expose any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun.
In some of my images, you will notice tiny sprinkles that appear black or dark brown. They are not. They are gold. (I’m not much of a photographer.)
The piece is reticulated (hand pierced). There are five round piercings, descending in size from top to bottom, located at each of the three corners of the top “bud.” Another opening is larger, and it is located at the top of each twisting handle.
In the image above: Letter “A” indicates the largest of the five round holes. Letter “B” points to the smallest. Letter “C” shows the opening at the top of the handle.
This charmer would feel perfectly at home even in the most advanced collection, and it remains in both “investment” and “gift-giving” condition.
(If you wish, I'll even gift-wrap it for you - with nothing inside but the vase.)
