Antique Russian 19th Century Festival Icon On On Panel 13 Panels In Cyrillic For SaleA 13 panel Russian Festival icon that is from the 19th century, or earlier. It is on tulip wood and has oak cross bracing on the reverse to prevent warping. The bracing was done in the 19th century, likely when the panel was made. The panel's width has shrunk making the braces stick out beyond the panels. The size of the artwork is approximately 18" x 15". The work is in tempura and there is some roughage to the gesso around the edges from wear. Overall the painting is in very nice condition. I can not Cyrillic nor do I know what religious Festival this is depicting but it looks to be the life of Jesus, interestingly most of the figures are brown skinned.
