A SOLID STERLING SILVER (.925) MEMENTO MORI SKULL SCULPTURE
An exquisite solid sterling silver weighing a very heavy 119 grams and measuring approximately 1.5" (4 cm) in height. Depicting an anatomical skull with a Snake coiled through. Exquisite detail throughout. Memento Mori is a Latin phrase translated as "Remember your mortality", "Remember you must die" or "Remember you will die". It refers to a genre of artworks that vary widely but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their mortality, an artistic theme dating back to antiquity. Remarkable and immaculate worksmanship, worthy of display in a museum collection. Typically such pieces were carved from natural mateirals, with Sterling Silver examples far and few between, most in Museum and Institutional collections.
