Antique Scarce E&co Eppelsheimer Ny Pumpkin Ice Cream Mold #309 Thanksgiving:
I can just picture a pretty little peachy/orange, pumpkin flavored, ice cream pumpkin with a clove stem, sitting on a dainty antique plate. Did folks own a number of these so they could serve a family or ladies for tea? It seems like these were only for homes that had kitchen help or a good freezer as unmolding a number would be most difficult.
This pewter mold, #309, is in very good condition and it came from the prestigious home of R.T. Murphy on Summit Ave. in St. Paul. This was R.T. Murphy Sr. of Murphy Trucking Cos. and later, Murphy Warehouse. But I digress; note that the outside of many of these molds aren’t nearly as detailed as the inside. The inside, top of the mold, shows the little curled stem, and the vertical grooves are deep and accentuated. The inside diameter of the pumpkin is 2 5/8”. The pin holding the hinge together is loose and can come out almost ¼” but it doesn’t come out any further. It can easily be pushed back in and it only comes out one end. There’s a slight bit of wobble in the hinge that can show misalignment of just over 1/16” at the middle, side, of the pumpkin. It can also be perfectly aligned when filled; it just has some movement.
Thanks for looking!
