Antique Shan State Burma/thai/laos Silvered Copper Tobacco Box Pendant Inscribed For Sale
Description: Antique Shan State (Eastern Burma/northern Thailand/Laos) silvered or tinned intricate repousse copper lidded Tobacco box pendant (it has a hinged attachment at the back for wearing on a belt or bag). According to Jewelry of Southeast Asia (Anne Richter), containers of this type were traded in Shan State (Eastern Burma), Laos and northern Thailand (pp. 138-39 has a very similar example in silver which dates to the 19th century). There's an inscription on the bottom. Some wear to the silvering/tinning and to the points of the raised decorative elements on the top commensurate with age and use, but in otherwise great condition, with no splits or breaks. Measures 4" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/2" high. Circa 19th century, based on the example in the book above, deep patina and wear.
