Antique Ship Chronometer Ulysse Nardin 2744 Wood Case W Keys Yokohama Osaka For Sale
Antique Ship Chronometer Ulysse Nardin 2744 Wood Case w Keys Yokohama Osaka
You are offerding on a very unique and attractive antique from the times of seafaring swashbucklers.
This is a chronometer from a ship. In the days before GPS and computers, this would have been used to help determine not only what time it was, but where on the globe the ship was located.
This chronometer is marked “Favre-Brandt & Cie Ulysse Nardin Locle Suisse 2744”. This comes in a wooden case. The case is marked with two brass tags. One tag reads “Favre-Brandt & Cie Yokohoma & Osaka.” The other tag is “2744”.
This Ulysse Nardin chronometer does not have hands and will likely require some maintenance. However, it does wind, and the chain is intact. It also does run for a short period of time.
The face of the chronometer has roman numerals for each hour. It also has two smaller dials. One is numbered “10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60”. The other is numbered “8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48”, and says “Down Bas Up Haut”. The back side of the chronometer is stamped with a crest, and says “2744 Ulysse Nardin Locle”.
The wooden case has handles on both sides. It has a small top that opens, and under that is a flat glass window to view the chronometer. It also opens about 1/3 down to give access to the chronometer. The case has brass corners and braces which are inlaid into the surface.
This comes with a key to lock the chronometer, a winding key, and a lever that appears to hold the chronometer in a fixed position. The chronometer sits in a cradle that allows it to stay level regardless of the position of the ship on the surface of the water.
The brass on this chronometer does have some tarnish and wear, but also has bright spots.
The glass on the chronometer is clean and free of chips. The face of the chronometer is white with some normal soiling.
The case has some normal wear for an item that would have been carried on and off a ship whenever they were in a port.
If you collect timepieces or nautical items, this is something that would look great in your collection. It could be displayed, or restored for actual time keeping. offer now and don’t let this rare antique get away.
