Antique Solid Silver Engrave & Enamel Decorated Ladies Cigarette Case Circa 1910:
Antique European Solid Silver Gilt Engine Turn & Enamel Decorated Ladies Cigarette Case circa 1910
This Antique Ladies Cheroot or Cigarette Case measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 53 mm across from the hinge to the finger catch by 3 1/8 inches or 80 mm across its length from the top to the bottom edge and it is just under 1/2 an inch or 12 mm deep from back to front when closed.
The case is made from solid silver in a rectangularshape with an eight section piano hingeand it has a sprung push buttonthumb or fingercatch on the front edge that has been inset with a blue sapphire coloured cabochon shaped stone, both the front and back of the case have beenwonderfully engine turn engrave decorated and the front of the case has a decorative blue enamel outer border, the inner case has been gilded or gold plated and it is complete with its original internal strap, the case has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the inner edge of the case has been impressed with a European 800 standard solid silver mark as photographed below, I estimate that this ladies cigarette case was either made in Italy or Austria circa 1900 - 1920.
Thecondition is used and Excellent for its age.
The Case has No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks and No Holes that I can find, the case is straight, thedecoration and definition is very crisp, the hinge andcatch are both working, thecase opens and clickstightly shut with relative ease, the solid silver mark is still clearly legible, the internal gilding is a good colour with some minor wear, although as the case is aused antiqueit does have some minor damage to some areas of the blue enamel band along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patinaof age thatis to be expected anda gentleclean would notgo amiss.Personally I think that this antique ladies cheroot or cigarettecase could still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it has a delightful look about it considering that it's around 100 or so years old.
This Superb Quality Antique European Solid SilverGilt Engine Turn & Enamel Decorated Ladies Cigarette Case circa 1910is one of several piecesof antique and collectable silverthat I have also listed.
