Antique Solid Silver Gravy Server Or Sauce Boat From Portugal Circa 1920 For Sale
Antique Solid Silver Dining Table Gravy Server or Sauce Boat from Oporto in Portugal circa 1920
This Antique Gravy Server or Sauce Boat measures approximately 5 1/8 inches or 129 mm across its length from the handle to the front of the pouring lip by just over 2 1/8 inches or 55 mm across the widest part of its upper body from side to side and it stands just under 2 3/8 inches or 66 mm tall to the top of its rim.
The gravy server or sauce boat is madefrom 90.7 grams of 833 standard solid silver in a standard oval shape that stands on a raised oval foot rim, it has a delightfully shaped scrolling handle with a shaped pouring lip and it has Not been engraved with a previous owners initialsor family monogram, the gravy server or sauce boat has been impressed on the underside of its body with a Portuguese silversmith or makers mark that is along side a Portuguese .833 standard eagle head solid silver mark from Oporto (Porto) that was used until 1938 when this style of mark was changed as photographed below, I estimate that it was made circa 1910 - 1930.
Thecondition is used and near Mint for its age.
The gravy server or sauce boat has No Dents, No Holes,No Splits, No Cracksand No Repairs that I have found, the sauce boat stands straight, the definition is very crisp, the sauce boat holds liquid without leaking, the silver and makers marks are still legible although as this is a used antique gravy server or sauce boat it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina ofagethatisto be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique gravy server or sauce boat can still be used on a dining table today and that it would makea superb addition to any collection, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that they are around 90 to 100 or so years old.
Please note that there are some dark shadows within the images of these vases that are just reflections of the camera and surroundings that could not be avoided during photography.
