Antique Staffordshire Pointer Dog Enamels On Pearlware R Wood Family C1810-20:
Wood FamilyModel of aPointer Seated on Cushioned Plinth
A crisply moulded figure with an abundance of detail;this pointerhas a separate tail and four separate legs with individual toes, as well as
detail in the modeling of the ears, head, snout, mouth, eyes, etc. There is an intelligentlook on his face. The moulding includes the anatomy
of an intact male. The base is open underneath with a vent hole into the figure . There is no restoration, with only flea bite chips to base foot rim,
and a tight firing line at the base of the tail.
The Pointeris coloured in the round, dark brown patches over the creamy white pearlwarebody. The overglaze enamelsare carefully painted
withdetails to the lidded eyes, irises and pupils, whiskers, lips, nose and even toenails. A lovely "pearlware" blue-tinged glaze coversthe entire
figure, even the underside ofthe base, with pooling seen in pockets and crevices. The cushion is brightly coloured with tassels on the 4 corners.
There is some crazing to the dog's body that is commensurate with the figure's age and in no way detracts from the value.

*SEE COMPANION SETTER FIGURE LISTED IN MY STORE:
The right facing figure of the Setter is separately listed since I purchased the two from different individual UK dealers. Currently, I display these
as a set since they represent an original "true pair" from the mould No. 70 of the Ralph Wood Family and are both decorated in over-glaze
enamels whichwe see in the Enoch Wood works of a later period c. 1810-1820.
