Antique Sterling Silver Thimble Enamel Opalescent Askel Holmsen Norway:
This beautiful antique thimble is marked 925 and has the mark of Askel Holmsen on the inside.
He is a famous Norwegian silversmith who also made beautiful pieces of jewelry. There appear
to be minor losses to the blue and white enamel but I only noticed this with strong magnification
but I want to give you all of the details. It doesn't detract from the beauty or rarity of this thimble.
The magnificent opalescent dimpled glass top is in excellent condition. You can see lots of fire
in the glass. It's stunning! The silver has that soft antique feel to it which tells me that it was
lovingly used for many years. There is very fine scratching to the entire surface. There isn't a size
number on the thimble but I would say it is about a 7.
Height: 20mm ( 3/4") Width of base: 14mm ( just over1/2") An absolutely gorgeous thimble
by Askel Holmsen of Norway! One of my very favorites from the collection!

I have received an email to say that this thimble is by a much more important designer, the renowned David-Andersen.
The mark was very difficult to decipher as it is inside the lid . I apologize for my mistake. I am unable
to change the title in the listing as it has already been offer on. I am also adding some more photos to try
and better show the opalescence of the glass top.
I am told by an expert that this David Andersen thimble is probably
from before 1900 so it is an early example of his work. I think this is a very
scarce example by the most renowned of all Norwegian silversmiths, David Andersen!
