Antique Stoneware: 12" Blob Top Beer Bottle W/ Script & Alkaline Glaze, Ca.1860 For Sale
A rare, early Blob Top Stoneware Beer or Mead Bottle, ca.1860 or earlier. Features a highly-unusual light green Alkaline Glaze with Slip-Trailed Script on the shoulder that reads: "B. Kohlstods." The inscription appears to be Cobalt, but the color is slightly muted due to the over-glaze. There is some kiln-fry on the writing, but it is raised and quite legible. I'm not sure if this bottle was made for an individual or perhaps for a small 19thC. brewery. There are general imperfections created at the time of manufacture, and a few chips on the base; otherwise in excellent overall condition. This Keeper will display prominently in any Antique Bottle or Stoneware collection! I would consider this script-decorated Blob Top very unique and extremely scarce.
