Antique Stoneware: 19thc. Crock W/ Cobalt Pecking Chicken, Upstate Ny, Ca.1880 For Sale
A fine 19thC. Salt-Glazed Crock with outstanding Chicken Pecking Corn decoration. This piece is unmarked, but certainly made in Upstate New York, ca.1880. Chicken-Decorated Stoneware is among the most highly sought-after designs among seasoned collectors. This piece will not disappoint. The Cobalt is a rich, dark blue; and the bird is highly-detailed, with lots of accents on the breast, wing and tail. The placement of the decoration is perfect. The overall condition is excellent! I see two stone pops; one in the bed of corn (center), and one about 3" to the right of the decoration. There are a few nicks on the inner rim; with hairlines / discoloration near the handles (see close-ups). There are some light lime or mineral deposits on the interior and exterior surfaces; these can be cleaned, if desired. Please see photo set for details and further description. This Pecking Chicken Crock has a capacity between two and three gallons. Measures 11-1/4"W x 10"H overall.
