Any aficionado of Antique Stoneware will certainly appreciate this commanding 3Gal. Jug. The cobalt-washed stamp on the shoulder reads: F.B. NORTON & CO., WORCESTER, MASS. The mark dates between 1858-1877, when Frank Norton partnered with Frederick Hancock. The decorated stoneware from the Norton manufactories in Worcester (MA) and Bennington (VT) are among the most highly sought-after by seasoned collectors. Their fantastic signature designs using bold Slip-Trailed Cobalt are legendary; this piece certainly qualifies. It features a finely-executed Floral Plume, extending 12" diagonally on the front of the Jug. The Cobalt is thick and bright; it will draw attention from across a room!
