Antique Stoneware: 5gal. Ct Crock W/ Cobalt, Samuel Pewtress, New Haven, Ca.1875 For Sale
A HTF Cobalt-Decorated 5Gal. Crock from Connecticut, ca.1875. This is an impressive piece, weighing in at 18 lbs! The impressed stamp is cobalt-washed and reads: S. L. PEWTRESS, NEW HAVEN, CT. This is the mark of Samuel Pewtress, who operated a pottery there from 1868-1887. The Cobalt Stylized Floral is big, bold and very well-executed. There is a hairline near the left handle, and some spidering on the rim (above the stamp). Also, some flaking on the Albany Slip interior (bottom). See photos for further description and details.
