Antique Stoneware: *nr* 4g Ct Crock W/ Cobalt, S.l. Pewtress, New Haven, Ca.1870:
An impressive 4Gal. Crock from Connecticut, ca.1870. Cobalt-Decorated pieces from the Constitution State are quite rare and highly sought-after by seasoned collectors. This beauty is impressed with a stamp that reads: S.L. PEWTRESS, NEW HAVEN, CT. This is the mark of Samuel Pewtress; he opened a manufactory on Chatham Street in the Fair Haven district around 1868. This is a sturdy, well-made Crock at 14.4 lbs. and features a beautiful Stylized Floral Bouquet. The design is big and bold, with sprays, flourishes and dotted accents in every direction; very well executed. In addition, the capacity is marked in cobalt over the impressed "4". There are some minor dings and wear on the rim and handles shown; and two tight hairlines on the backside (see close-up). Rich, brown Albany Slip interior. Please see photos for complete details and further description. Measures 12-3/4"W x 11-1/2"H overall. The base and inner rim diameters are 11-3/4" and 10-3/4", respectively. Offered with absolutely . Ships fully insured to the highest buyer, anywhere in the lower 48! Good Luck, and be sure to visit my other sales ending soon. Thanks.
