Antique Stoneware: Salt-glazed Blob Top Bottle W/ Cobalt Script, Ca.1880, Nr:
A rare, early Blob Top Stoneware Beer or Mead Bottle, ca.1880 or earlier. Features a shiny Salt Glaze with Slip-Trailed Script on the shoulder that reads: "B. Kohlstod."; the inscription appears to be Cobalt, but the color is slightly muted due to the over-glaze. I'm not sure if this bottle was made for an individual or perhaps for a small 19thC. brewery. There are general imperfections created at the time of manufacture, roughness on the spout, and a shallow chip on the base; otherwise in excellent overall condition. No cracks or repaired damage. This script-decorated Blob Top will display prominently in any Antique Bottle or Stoneware collection! Please see photos for details, close-ups and further description. Measures approximately 3-1/2"W x 11-3/4"H and heavy; weighs approximately 2.6 lbs! There is on this beauty. Good Luck, and be sure to browse my other sales ending soon!
