This is a non-electric, mechanical practice key designed to provide a telegraph ’sounder’ directly from the key. It was used for training telegraph operators around the turn of the century. The wood baseboard is stamped with: “J.H.BUNNELL & Co., 76 Cortland St., N.Y” which address places the company date between 1890-1900. The unusually small knob is likely company-specific to the user, and is stamped: “N C Co.”. My own speculation is that it might be the New York Central RR Co.The key was well used and has a couple mounting-screw holes drilled in the base board. There are a couple small corrosion spots on the patina of the brass finish. This key is over 100 years old!USA sales only. Shipping via USPS Priority Mail with tracking.
