Up for offer is a magnificent antique Turkish Ottoman hinged snuff box. I have been told the metal is Tombak.This casket/treasure chest box has ten faux ruby and turquoise stones and a hand painted lovers portrait on the domed lid. I inherited this item many years ago and it has been sitting on a shelf ever since. The base of the box measures 4.50\" long by 3 & 3/8\" wide by 4\" tall with the lid closed. The box is 6.25\" tall with the lid opened.The box is lined with a teal blue satin and you can see how bright the original surface was in the photo where the top piece of lining was held aside. The thick heavy metal piece weighs just over one pound and has four feet on the bottom. I have never cleaned the item other than with a damp cloth. I also have never tried to lock the chest for fear the key wouldn\'t work to then open the chest. All photos were taken with a MACRO lens to show the true condition of the item. This piece is a work of art yet I can find NO markings of origin or maker. Just a really lovely piece.If anyone has any other information about this piece I would love to hear from you.
