Antique/vtg 1920's Ridgid 5.5"(6"?) Pipe Wrench Ridge Tool Elyria Ohio Rare :
Antique/VTG 1920's Ridgid 5.5"(6"?) Pipe Wrench Ridge Tool Elyria Ohio RARE . This measures about 5.5" overall with the jaws closed. It looks like on the left side of the handle is RIDGID PAT 17278(6?)23 6. That possible 6 leads me to believe that it was called a 6" pipe wrench. On the right side of the handle is RIDGE TOOL CO ELYRIA O. USA.This has excellent jaws the knurling is still good on the adjusting nut and the spring are working. I lost the spring so I put another one in but then I found the spring so I am including that one too. The action is smooth. I did not grease it as it should be. The movable jaw has a size scale on the shank. I found that the patent number 172623 dates to 1929. There is still some black paint to be found on it. This is not only an unusual tool but also practical. It will grip rounded off nuts and bolts and small pipes that are hard to get to in tight places using just one hand to work the tool. It can also be used for a clamp when welding or gluing. I really feel that the steel back then was better than now and this fine wrench will outlast all the new tools made today. Then too there are a number of larger pipe wrenches for sale but the 6" is not found very often. A great little tool to carry as backup.
