Antique Very Fine & Large 19th C. Signed Japanese Meiji Satsuma Vase Blue 10.5" Description

One of two 19th centuryJapanese Meiji Satsuma pieces listed, both from the same estate and both bearing the same character seal mark.

A fine and very elegantMeiji periodJapanese Satsuma vase, signed to the base, and dating to the latter half of the19th century.

The vase is baluster in form, with a rounded lip rim over a cylindrical neck and the broad body tapering to a narrow base.

The crackle glaze vase, the glaze extending into the inner rim,has been beautifully & intricatelyhanddecorated, with raised gilt and raisedenamels in a variety of colours onto a very rich dark blue and gilt ground.

The shoulders have raised gilt & enamel decoratedfolded panels forming a largecartouche to either side - one cartouche with a floral and bird subject and the other with a similar decoration but with a more prominent bird, all in rich colours and gilt.

The side panels have hand gilded and enamelled floral motifs on a rich dark blue ground - Please click on all photos to enlarge.

The base is signed witha red character seal mark and an illegible raised mark. (later felt pads have been attached to the base rim, but can be easily removed if wished)

Condition is Fine, with no damage or restoration and only very light wear commensurate with age.

The vase stands approx 10 1/2" /26.8cmtall and is (very) approx 8 3/4 / 9" wide.
