This sale is for a three-pieceset consisting of pair of pierced, 14K gold-filled late Victorian dangleearrings with their original wires and tops, as well as a matching brooch.

It\'s hard to findgold-filled demi-parures like this in such excellent condition. Whenever I wentto an antique show or sale in the 1980s-1990s, a find like this really mademy day.

These earrings areintact, have never been converted. They still have their original tops -- not aplain screwback top button or a fish-hook from a craft store. They look almost exactly as they did when their original owner took them out of her jewelrybox and put them on.

This set has ageometric, Renaissance-Revival-style design with a medley of textured surfaces and chasing techniques.

The earrings first,since they\'re probably why you\'re here. (There are plenty of brooches in theworld, but not so many earrings, not like this pair anyway):

The earrings are verybright with a lot of movement.
They have their originallong plunger wires attached to a curvilinear crest piece.
The dangles beneath are gold-filledhollow-ware, quite lightweight, composed of three layers:the first cartouche-shaped and textured like glittering sand; on top ofthat a scalloped section; and on top of that, a rectangle decorated with blacktaille d\'epargne enamel.
They are in excellentcondition, considering they likely date from the 1870s-1890s.The seams are tight and the tops are securely attached. The only sign of wearis what ought to be there – you can see faint semi-circular marks across theearring backs from more than 100 years of wires rubbing faintly.

The brooch:

It matchesthe earrings.
It has its original,period-correct hinge and pin, which extends slightly beyond the body of thebrooch.
Hidden on the back ofthe brooch is the only flaw I can find with this set: There is a round ring, mostlyopen. Something once dangled from it, and now it doesn\'t.

Please look carefully atthe pictures, as they are part of the description – particularly at the picturethat shows the brooch next to a coin and measuring tape for scale. You can seethat these aren\'t tiny, they\'re nice, substantial 19th centurypieces.
