Antique Victorian 18k Gold Coral Etruscan Festoon Necklace For Sale
Antique Victorian 18k Gold Coral Etruscan Festoon Necklace
This sale is for a finely made and beautifully designed, 18k gold and natural coral festoon necklace, that is from the late Victorian era. This piece is not marked but tests positive for 18k solid gold, is a vibrant and deep yellow, and the necklace weighs 37 grams. The necklace measures 15" long and closes securely with an older (solid gold) spring ring clasp but I'm not sure if its original to the piece. Looking at the back of the necklace there have been some repairs to the piece, there are some spots where the connecting points of the festoon were reinforced and re-connected, and a few irregularities to the backings which you can see clearly in the photos. Having said that the repairs were done very well, the festoon is very secure, and the repairs are noticeable only by examining the back of the necklace. The festoon is very intricate and beautifully made with tiny etruscan details that give the necklace a subtle texture and delicacy. The pendant at the very bottom of the necklace measures 1" tall (not including the bale) and all of the pendants have a "cupped" shape that is flat at the back so the festoon lays beautifully when worn. The pendant is accented with natural coral stones, they are thick and jut out nicely from the setting, with soft and domed shapes. The largest coral stone in the necklace measures a bit longer than 5/8" and the smallest stones are 3mm in diameter. There are no coral cabochons missing and they all look original to the piece. There is one coral (right above the bottom dangle) that has a pit in the middle and there are a few more very tiny pits and irregularities to the surface of the coral but they are very minor and most of the coral has a very perfect and smooth surface that doesn't have any discoloration or irregularity. The coral has a beautiful gleam with smooth surfaces and a beautiful creamy pink color that is slightly less hot and orange than they appear in the photographs. There are no missing components to the festoon, it is symmetrical, and there are only two tiny cannetille brads missing from their settings (one on each setting) that is noticeable only upon close inspection. Overall this is a finely made and beautifully designed, 18k gold and natural coral festoon necklace, that is from the late Victorian era that is in Excellent condition.
