Antique Victorian Mahagony And Brass Carpenters Tool Chest/case Circa 1873:
Antique Victorian Carpenters Tool Case/Chest. Fashioned from mahogany with an inlaid brass carrying handle on the top of the case. The top of the case is double hinged and has two flaps which lift to reveal compartments for storage. The inside is set with a smart brass badge inscribed "DR", I don't think this in the medical sense but I could be wrong and this may be a Dr's case. Carved into the case (you can just see in the photo) is : R.Ridley, London, June 1873, also R.Ridley ispunched into the edge of the compartments. Maybe he made the case. There is also a long thin draw with an ivory or oxbone handle. To the front of the case is a large draw with an ornate keyhole, I don't have the key unfortunately.
The chest has a few battle scars anda couple of chips where the wood has been lost. But overall not too bad for a case 140 or more years old.
The chest stands 8" tall, is 16" long and is 10 1/2" wide.
