For the love of seashells!Charming turn of the century seashell covered sewing box with pincushion. Traditionally created by a sailor while at sea as a gift of love for a waiting sweetheart. Border of iridescent shells covers a simple paste board constructed box with woven grass sides, dresden trim around the silk pincushion, and embossed braid trim around lid edges.
Unsigned and undated.

Circa: 1870 - 1880

Condition:

GOOD

Wear appropriate for age.

3 missing shells (one included inside)

Staining to pincushion.

Paper hinge to lid is torn making the lid loose.

Fading / discoloration to bottom of box.

Surface of shells has a darkening patina.

Surface scratches to 2 large shells on lid.

Blemish on inside edge of lid.
