Antique Vintage 1890's Cast Iron Inkwell Ink Stand W/ Original Cut Glass Inserts:
For you consideration, this turn of the century ( 1900's ) Eastlake Victorian Style cast iron postal inkstand, complete with all three original Fostoria cut glass Colony Swirl pattern removable inkwell inserts. This rare and marvelous relic of a bygone era is in excellent condition with a lovely natural patina but still has much of the original very dark (almost black) green paint and on the underside is imprinted " Tatum's Elite Ink Stand ". The exact date of manufacture is uncertain but the design was patented December, 1892 and these stands were made until about 1916. The center glass inkwell may be missing a cap (if it ever had one) and does have a barely noticeable slight chip on the edge of the rim that does not detract. The two larger inserts are intact and in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, but do show some very light scratches on the top edge where the pivoting lids make contact. The lids are attached to the stand and still operate as originally designed however there is some rust on the underside that obscures other markings. There are two curved trays in the front and one on each side to hold pens or writing implements and a spring like coiled wire on the top rear for mail, etc. All in all, this is a rare and wonderful hard to find complete set that would look great on any desk and could even be used as intended if desired.
