This impressive Simmons watch chain is a flat herring-bone, and has no gold loss. The Simmons Co. started their jewelry business in 1873, and were famous for their watch chains. The chain is complete with T-Bar and Swivel, which is stamped “1/20 12KGF” on the top. This dates the chain to after 1906, when jewelers were required to mark the metal content of their jewelry. The fish fob is unusual and very detailed, and could date to the 1800's. It measures 2 5/8-inches long and 1 1/8-inch at its widest point. The material is some kind of hard, early plastic, possibly celluloid. It is butterscotch in color, with slightly darker shading in places. The carving is excellent, done by someone who was familiar with fish! Both the watch chain and fob are in very good to excellent condition.
