Antique Vintage Iznik Jerusalem Tile Palestinian Armenian Ottoman Islamic 1920's:
This is a lovely Iznik tile, probably made by the Armenian Potteries of Jerusalem: Karakashian, Balian Pottery. Working from the Ottoman Iznik tradition, from which they established their potteries when they migrated from Kutaya, Turkey to Palestine in the 1920's.
Lovely classic formal symetric Ottoman floral design, with carnations & other flowers/foliage.
It displays the typical characteristics of fluid, strong alkalinecoloured glazing: copper turquoise, cobolt blue, iron red, chrome green on a white slip background with stable black drawn outline.
Unmarked, the reverse has striped moulding to 'key' when attached to a wall.Condition: near perfect.
Lovely piece, a beauty for a Mid East collection.
One of three disimilar Iznik tiles which are listed.
