Antique W. Stillman Cast Steel Patent Civil War Era Amputation/flesh Saw Knife:
This Civil War Era bone saw/flesh knife is just under 17" overall.
The blade is 11" x 1-3/4" at its widest point. The blade is stamped,W. STILLMAN, CAST STEEL, PATENT
Full Tang, some age marks, see pictures.
The patent dates from the late 1830's. Diston and others made similar styles after the patent expired.
The shaped wood handle is pinned to the tang with three rivets. There is a ring inserted at the butt for hanging.
In good condition being a period piece, that probably saw some action (by a surgeon or butcher).
This is a very interesting piece and perfect for medical or kitchen display.I can't believe it can go either way but things were different back then.
Again, check the pictures as that is part of the description.
All sales final, no returns so please ask questions and offer accordingly.
Must be 18 years old.
