Antique Wooden Carved Weather Vane Jockey Mold:
A very unique carving. This is a wooden mold for a weather vane surrey or cart driver. The jockey was carved out of wood and then a sand mold was made from him. Next an iron form was poured which was then used to tap the copper into shape. This is the original carving.
We have mounted this in an exploded view so you can see all the different parts of the carving. Found in New England outside Boston it dates to the late 1800's to the early 1900's.
On the mounting the rider stands 21 5/8" high and 16" long. He has a chipped nose and toe on one side of the mold, otherwise he is in excellent condition.
