Rare and beautiful Oyster Shell Cameo of Artemis (Diana) in wood frame

In Greek mythology, Artemis is the Goddess of Hunt and protector of young girls before they get married. In later Hellenistic times, she even assumed the ancient role of Eileithyia in aiding childbirth. In Roman, she is the moon goddess.

On this cameo, Artemis is represented as a female with a Faustina-type hairstyle. She is wearing a hair band set with her crescent.The cameo was carved from very pale oyster shell. This material is very light weight, difficult to carve, and rarely found as great condition. Choosing oyster shell as material well matches with the theme, goddess of the moon.The size of de cameo is 5,5cm h and with frame is 17cm h. The cameo has a perfect condition. No any chips, damage, crack to note.
