A handsome Scottish/English antique solid sterling silverbox with its original interior cedar wood lining and full silver hallmarks. Hamilton& Inches are a renowned silver maker founded 1866 in Edinburgh; they havestores today in Edinburgh and London. This excellent quality sterling silverbox has a hinged silver lid and is decorated with attractive engraving. Thereis a protruding silver edge on the front to assist opening and original leatherettecovering on the underside of the base. The condition is nice with age-relatedsurface dings from normal use, and these can be seen in the photographs. Thehinged lid works perfectly and opens and closes tightly. The interior woodlining is original and in good condition with no splits or loss. The hallmarksare obvious but a bit blurred, however “Hamilton & Inches Edinburgh” isclearly marked on the side. It shines beautifully and the lid and closure are anice fit over the original wooden cedar lining. The size is 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x1-3/4 inches (9 x 9 x 4.5 cm) and the weight is 10-1/2 oz.
